Hello, I have built a custom board to control some hardware, and Ive integrated an Arduino ATMEGA2560 into the design using the MEGA2560 reference design. You might just need to install a driver for the USB to serial chip on your dev board. So if one dev board works and another one doesn't, that does not necessarily mean the board is defective. The Arduino extension makes it easy to develop, build, and deploy your Arduino sketches in Visual Studio Code, with a rich set of functionalities. Although the ESP32 module may be the same, you might have a dev board with a different USB to serial converter than other devices you might have tested on your computer. In my Device Manager, the Arduino shows up as COM7 (I know this because CH340 is in the device name). In the Device Manager window, look for a device under Ports (COM & LPT), and chances are the Arduino will be the only device on the list. Without a driver the chip probably turns up as unsupported or unrecognised device in your hardware list.
